elementary OS Luna screenshot Here are some fixes you can do to improve battery life in elementary os luna.  If you notice, Elementary OS Luna is based on Ubuntu 12.04 which has various issues.  I don’t know why Elementary OS Luna don’t update with new version of Ubuntu, but I think it may be due to the fact that tons of adjustments and changes have to be made so it would make sense to update every so many releases of Ubuntu. The 12.04 version of Ubuntu is known to have battery and wifi issues that were fixed in later releases.   It is even worse for Nvidia users because they gotta update drivers and do other things even for the latest Ubuntu release.  I know so because I used the latest Ubuntu 13.04 using an Nvidia laptop and believe me it was overheating.  Updating drivers fixed it.  The Newer Ubuntu versions work just fine with Intel but let’s start going into things we can do to improve the battery life and fix overheating issues of Elementary OS Luna.  I am not a Linux expert and since the following commands below work for Ubuntu 12.04 which Luna is based on, I would assume you shouldn’t experience any issues or problems with these commands.  Techlivewire.com is not to responsible for you trying the commands below.  I used these commands myself and things are still smooth and stable.  My battery life is 5 hours now compared to the 3 hours that Windows 8 gave me.   I am loving Luna. You could try setting up laptop tools which can make a big difference.

sudo apt-get install laptop-mode-tools

Some people said Bumblebee really worked for them to fix battery life issues.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bumblebee/stable sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install bumblebee bumblebee-nvidia linux-headers-generic

  You can also try

sudo apt-get install pm-utils

To activate it:

sudo pm-powersave true

To deactivate it

sudo pm-powersave false
